Summary / Objective

The Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients of any age group admitted to the facility. The Registered Nurse provides direction to Licensed Vocational Nurses and non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. The Registered Nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the Hospital.

Job Duties
  • Knows and conforms to the Nurse Practice Act for the State of Texas. Utilizes a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal‑directed nursing care by performing comprehensive nursing assessments, making nursing diagnoses, developing a plan of care, implementing nursing care, and evaluating the patient's responses to interventions.
  • Delegates tasks to unlicensed personnel with regard to patient safety and compliance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Implements measures to promote a safe environment for patients and others and knows the rationale for and effects of medications and treatments.
  • Maintains required documentation of patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards.
  • Clarifies any order or treatment regimen that the nurse has reason to believe is inaccurate, non‑efficacious or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner and notifies the ordering practitioner when the nurse decides not to administer the medication or treatment.
  • Institutes appropriate nursing interventions to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications.
Required Education And Experience

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Required License / Certifications
  • Current RN license in the State of Texas
  • BLS certification
  • Unit specific competencies obtained within six months of hire
