Job SummaryLamar University is seeking a full-time Athletic Trainer (baseball) to provide comprehensive medical services to student-athletes under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Health & Wellness and team physicians. The position requires independent decision-making in the areas of injury assessment, referrals, care management, return-to-play, emergency care, communication, and administration.
This role collaborates closely with the athletic training staff, strength and conditioning staff, coaches, athletic administration, team physicians, and other campus departments. Non-traditional hours (mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays) and some travel are required. Remote work is not suitable.
Essential Job Functions- Assist team physicians and Assistant AD in injury recognition, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of student-athletes.
- Maintain accurate medical records and reports (physicals, injury documentation, physician notes, treatment/rehab notes, insurance claims, etc.).
- Supervise assistant/graduate assistant athletic trainers; serve as a clinical preceptor for graduate and undergraduate athletic training students.
- Assist in updating policies and procedures in line with NCAA recommendations.
- Oversee and maintain a satellite sports medicine facility.
- Manage departmental inventory, ordering, and budget tracking.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.
- Master’s degree in athletic training or related field OR bachelor’s degree with master’s degree obtained within the first year of employment.
- 0–2 years of experience as a certified athletic trainer providing care for intercollegiate and/or professional athletes.
- Eligible for Texas Athletic Training License.
- Current BOC and CPR/AED certifications.
- Advanced certifications in allied health specialties or advanced clinical skill sets.
- Previous experience providing healthcare services to assigned sport(s).
- Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
- Adheres to physician supervision and prescribed treatment plans.
- Strong written and oral communication.
- Professional, reliable, adaptable, and detail-oriented with excellent work ethic.
- Knowledge of and compliance with confidentiality/privacy rules.
- Strict adherence to NCAA, Southland Conference, Lamar University, and Texas State University System regulations.
- Ability to bend, lift, and carry items of varying weights (including heavy items).
- Manual dexterity for medical care and equipment use.
- Ability to drive vehicles and maintain visual attention to traffic signals and road signs.
- Work may require uniforms/PPE, all-weather conditions, nights, weekends, and holidays.
