Total Safety is looking for an EHS Specialist to join their safety‑conscious team. Responsibilities- Conduct industrial hygiene surveys such as air and noise sampling, area noise, illumination, ventilation surveys, IAQ, ergonomic studies, and other appropriate studies.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain instruments including sampling pumps, calibrators, noise dosimeters, software, sound level meters, and direct‑reading gas meters.
- Perform safety inspections at client sites and collect notes on worker activities.
- Maintain daily logs of activities related to project work.
- Complete data sheets, IH calculations, chain of custody forms, prepare samples for laboratory shipment, create data tables and drawings for reports.
- Enter field data into Med Gate and conduct respirator fit testing.
- Submit administrative paperwork, including timesheets, expense reports, field reports, etc., in accurate and neat format.
- Assist with special projects as assigned.
- Required coursework or training leading to CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or OHST (Occupational Health & Safety Technologist) and possession of OSHA 500 & 501 certificates, including provision of on‑site H&S training.
- Safe Work Permitting Certification or documented experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Power Point) and ability to download, manipulate, and report data.
- Proficiency with HSE‑related software programs and HSE management systems.
- Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
- Working knowledge of OHSA, EPA regulations, state & federal laws, local ordinances, and related safety/safety‑security rules.
- Functional knowledge of incident command system and procedures.
- Understanding of client H&S work processes, tools, plant/department operations, and ability to provide field interpretation of regulations and assist with procedure development.
- Business‑risk analysis and cost‑vs‑benefit evaluation skills.
- Well‑developed planning, organizational skills, ability to work independently, prioritize activities, meet commitments, and manage a heavy workload.
Combination of office and field/production environments. Exposure to wet or humid conditions and weather. Travel to and from customer sites is required.
Educational RequirementsHigh School diploma or GED and at least three (3) years of progressive safety and health related experience, including overseeing contractor safety management. Prior experience in refinery operations is preferred. Associate degree preferred.
