Perioperative Clinical Educator responsible for coordinating orientation and professional development for nursing staff across multiple campuses, primarily facilitating Nurse Residency and Nurse Extern programs. Develops, implements, and evaluates continuing education using adult learning principles, manages residency calendars, onboarding cohorts, graduation events, and accreditation documentation. Collaborates with system education leadership to standardize curriculum, mentor residents, track retention, and support quality assurance and program enhancements.
DescriptionThe Perioperative Educator supports the professional development of associates across multiple campuses and service lines with a focus in Perioperative services.
Summary:
Responsible for the coordination of orientation of all nursing personnel; representation of CHRISTUS in community activities; and planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing continuing education programs. This clinical educator position will primarily facilitate the Nurse Residency Program and Nurse Extern Program. This role does not have direct reports but plays a critical leadership role in coordinating and executing three onboarding cohorts and three graduation events annually.
The educator collaborates closely with the OneCHRISTUS system to implement standardized education, develop training materials, and ensure consistent delivery of the residency curriculum.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains consistency with Administrative and Departmental policies with appropriate behavior, dress, attitude, attendance, confidentiality, professionalism, and reliability.
- Plans and implements educational activities to meet identified learning needs, utilizing adult education principles.
- Develops and utilizes an appropriate evaluative system to determine the effectiveness of educational activities.
- Promotes collaborative relationships among health care professionals. Participates in committees, task forces, meetings, and activities to assist in the development of staff, ultimately resulting in improved care.
- Participates in activities that promote professional development through education and other activities that enhance the practice of nursing and education.
- Key responsibilities include providing mentorship and guidance to nurse residents, aligning program goals with Talent Acquisition strategies, and maintaining documentation to support accreditation and quality assurance standards.
- The Facilitator also tracks retention statistics, plans and coordinates Launch Days, manages 12-month residency calendars, and oversees module development. Additionally, this role represents the SETX region on the OneCHRISTUS Residency Advisory Board, contributing to system-wide program enhancements.
Requirements:
Education/Skills
- Graduate of State Board accredited School of Nursing or equivalent. BSN required or in progress, master’s preferred.
Experience
- Five years’ experience in specialty preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- RN License in state of employment or compact.
- BLS.
- Certification in area of specialty preferred.
