Salary: $79,500.00 - $ / Annually

San Gorgonio Pass Water Agency (SGPWA) is seeking an experienced Water System Operator II to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Agency’s water distribution, pumping, and recharge facilities. This position serves as the Agency’s primary water system operator and works in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a journey‑level operator who values responsibility, accountability, and meaningful public service. The Operator II performs independent fieldwork while coordinating closely with the Operations Manager on system operations, maintenance priorities, emergency response, and ongoing infrastructure improvements. With major modernization and system upgrade projects underway, this role offers hands‑on involvement in shaping the future of the Agency’s water systems.

The Water System Operator II operates, inspects, maintains, and repairs water distribution, pumping, and recharge facilities. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, SCADA monitoring and response, leak investigation, water quality sampling, recordkeeping, coordination of Underground Service Alerts, and emergency response, all in support of safe and compliant system operations.

The ideal candidate is a dependable, safety‑focused professional with strong mechanical aptitude, solid computer and SCADA skills, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve system issues effectively. Success in this role also requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work well within a small, collaborative team under clear leadership and direction.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent; and
• Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience performing duties similar to a Water System Operator I within a water distribution system

• Possession of a valid D1 Water Distribution Operator certification
• Ability to obtain D2 certification within one year of appointment
