JOB DESCRIPTION
Under supervision, assists and supports the General Support Maintenance Division, and learns to repair and maintain all types of deficiencies in the City of Beaufort General Support / Facilities Maintenance Division. Performs field work that may include light construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and roofing project. This job classification is the entry level in the Associate series. Incumbents learn to perform the full range of facility maintenance and repair functions and are expected to advance to the higher level within a reasonable period.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of the specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
• Prepares lists of materials needed; makes daily work reports and keeps records.
• Performs cleaning, repair, and maintenance of City owned buildings.
• Performs minor carpentry, painting, and plumbing work.
• May assist with general upkeep and repair of HVAC systems.
• May assist with moving, building, and storing furniture/office equipment.
• Performs preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance duties.
• Supports troubleshooting calls and emergency response.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
• May at times be required for assistance with clearing and removal of trees that are unsafe to our citizens.
• May assist other divisions within the Department to install, maintain and repair traffic signal systems, including wiring, conduits, poles, heads, controllers, switches, and vehicle detectors.
• May assist other divisions within the Department to install and repair street lighting systems and other electrically and electronically controlled installations.
• May assist other divisions within the Department to make detailed checks of traffic signals and street lighting systems to locate trouble or causes of failure and adjusts detectors and time controllers; replace parts where failure or damage occurs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or certified equivalent supplemented by two years' experience in facility maintenance and/or electronics. I.M.S.A. School Certification Program and Work Zone Safety Program Level 1 Traffic Seminars and Workshops preferred/not required. Must be proficient in the use of equipment necessary to perform tasks with the ability to work independently.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbents in these classifications may be exposed to a variety of hazardous and/or unpleasant field conditions, including wet, rainy, cold, or hot weather, and traffic. Work in these classifications requires various types of physical exertion, such as: prolonged bending, stooping, and lifting; and driving vehicles and/or equipment for long periods of time. Knowledge of electrical theory and practice, low voltage systems, lighting, and control circuits.
Materials, methods and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of electric and electronic control devices; methods, materials and equipment used in minor electrical construction and repair; safe driving practices; and safe work practices as related to working with electrical and electronic components. Ability to: install, maintain and repair basic electric or electronic control devices; perform minor electrical installation and repair;
read and interpret electrical or electronic schematic diagrams; troubleshoot basic electrical circuits; maintain simple records; learn installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal and highway lighting systems; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND INFORMATION:
