Job Specific Details

  • Perform the receipt, disassembly, and inspection of reusable medical devices and surgical instruments to identify any damage.
  • Manage the disposal of regulated medical waste, general waste, and soiled linen in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Adhere to OSHA regulations regarding personal protective equipment (PPE) while operating in the decontamination zone at all times.
  • Assess and implement appropriate decontamination methods, including but not limited to the removal of blood, tissue remnants, bodily fluids, and other gross contaminants. Techniques include wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing, and utilizing ultrasonic and washer decontamination/sterilizer systems.
  • Conduct thorough examinations of all items post‑decontamination/pre‑sterilization to ensure that all visible contaminants have been eradicated and that instruments are operational.
  • Ensure accurate labeling and identification of all medical devices and surgical instruments.
  • Assemble and prepare a comprehensive range of specialty trays and instrument sets. Choose the appropriate wrapping or packaging materials for medical devices and instrument sets, and determine the sterilization method in accordance with established MTF protocols, including Ethylene Oxide (ETO) or Steam Sterilization. Ensure correct labeling, sealing, wrapping, or placement of items in rigid containers, applying appropriate chemical indicator tape, and aerating gas‑sterilized items for the designated duration.
  • Receive sterilized trays, sets, and equipment from the sterilizer, verifying the integrity of sterilization through color changes on indicator tapes, inspection of external and internal indicators, and checking for any package dampness; stock and securely store sterile items in the sterile storage area in compliance with MTF procedures.
Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8.5‑hour shifts scheduled between 6 AM and 7 PM, with a 30‑minute lunch break. No work required on weekends or holidays.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Degree: Certificate
  • Education: Successful completion of a Central Sterile Supply Specialist training program.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience as a Central Sterile Supply Technician following graduation.
  • Certification: Active certification from the International Association of Healthcare Central Services Materials Management (IAHCSMM) or current certification from the National Institute of Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.
  • Life Support Certification: Valid AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Security: Must successfully clear a Government background check and meet security clearance requirements.
