HDR is looking for a Transportation Construction Inspector to join our South Carolina Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, or Beaufort, SC. The role involves inspecting earthwork, storm drainage, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, and/or structures for conformance to plans and specifications. Responsibilities include material sampling and testing, performing calculations, preparing contract documentation, and field measurements of pay items.

The position may also include other duties as assigned.

Night and/or weekend work may be required as dictated by client project needs.

• Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions.
• Skills in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers.
• Ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications.
• Ability to take notes, prepare or review reports, communicate effectively, and instruct other employees in proper work methods.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
• Ability to travel for meetings, site visits, and inspections.
• Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law.
• Commitment to being an active participant in our employee‑owned culture.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction inspection for transportation projects (preferred).
• Local candidates are preferred.
• State DOT or other DOT certifications, or the ability to obtain them.

• High School diploma or equivalent, or 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute for a high school diploma.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Proven problem‑solving and documentation abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Successful completion of drug‑screening procedures and ongoing testing.
