Hwy Maintenance Worker​/Senior - Beatrice

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a dedicated and hardworking team player to join us in our mission to enhance the quality of life for Nebraskans by building and maintaining a convenient, safe, and innovative statewide transportation system.

• Operate trucks and light equipment to complete highway maintenance work.
• Operate tractors with various attachments to maintain highways and right of way.
• Operate post drivers for the installation of signs, fences, guardrails, and perform maintenance with hand-held power tools.
• Maintain the upkeep of shrubs and lawns, and perform tree trimming and brush cutting.
• Maintain yards, conduct building maintenance and cleaning, and paint buildings and structures.
• Perform manual labor for concrete and bituminous patching and sealing of cracks.
• Manually provide highway traffic control for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with safety procedures.
• Safely move, drag, lift, load, and unload various equipment and hazardous materials from the roadway within weight restrictions.
• Complete routine and general maintenance and mechanical repair on equipment.
• Repair highway signs and perform snow removal.
• Apply selective and non-selective herbicides to the highway right of way as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Minimum Qualifications – Highway Maintenance Worker: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Minimum Qualifications – Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior: Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and within 60 days of employment must possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsements.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience operating heavy equipment or a farming background. A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement. Commercial Pesticide applicator’s license. Basic computer experience.
• Must be able to be placed on-call and respond during non-scheduled work hours including holidays and weekends for emergencies and special events.
• Work must be performed in adverse weather conditions and during traffic management activities and snow removal.
• Regular and reliable attendance is required; must be able to report for work within 40 minutes of normal driving conditions during emergencies.
• Must be able to safely move, drag, and lift 35–60 pounds frequently, up to 90+ pounds infrequently.
