JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Maintenance Worker
Reports to: Director of Operations
Employment Status: Beachwood Union of Support Staff (BUSS) Contract
Position Summary
- Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, installation and repair of school facilities and equipment
- High school education or equivalent
- Demonstrate knowledge, a minimum of three years of experience, and proficiency in several areas of maintenance (e.g., plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry/concrete/tile, window glazing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC systems, roof repair, plastering/spackling, furniture repair, and small engine repair)
- Knowledge of school district safety measures
- Meet all health requirements mandated by law
- Satisfactory completion of BCII and FBI background checks
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle license
- Repair doors, lock, cabinets, chairs, floors, walls, and windows
Repair pipes, toilets, water lines, sprinkler system and other pieces of plumbing equipment - Replace/repair switches, install circuits and wiring, make repairs and adjustments to fans, motors, lighting and other electrical appliances and equipment
- Inspect plumbing, carpentry and electrical equipment for safety and preventive maintenance
- Report defects to Supervisor of Facilities & Grounds
- Performs patch plastering and finishing, replaces tiles on floors, and completes other general maintenance work including painting
- Maintains phone equipment systems in the schools.
- Performs daily maintenance and operational checks of the pool
- Plows snow off parking lots and driveways, as needed
- Performs preventive maintenance tasks as detailed and assigned in the district's preventive maintenance program
- Performs work following the district's electronic work order system
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Knowledge of tools, materials and terminology used in several building trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, locksmith, etc.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used in general maintenance and repair - Ability to safely and proficiently use a wide variety of common hand and power tools and shop equipment
- Ability to inspect facilities for maintenance and repair needs including fire, safety and health hazards
- Ability to perform general maintenance and repair of District buildings and facilities
- Ability to interpret, apply and explain applicable building codes, ordinances, fire regulations and safety precautions
- Ability to organize work and maintain routine records related to work performed. Estimate materials and supply needs
- Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain insurability to drive a District vehicle
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently with little direction
- Ability to understand written and oral instructions
- The employee shall exercise honesty and integrity in his/her relationships with the Board of Education and the administration
The employee shall promote a positive image of the District through exemplary personal conduct - The employee shall report misconduct or violations of policy or procedure following established Board policy
- The employee shall actively support the efforts of the Board of Education and the Superintendent in the pursuit of District goals and interests
- The employee shall not disrupt District operations or undermine the positions of the Board of Education and administration
- The employee shall demonstrate the ability to interact in a positive manner with staff, students and the public and promote a positive image of the district through exemplary personal conduct including but not limited to:
- The ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, with tact, diplomacy and excellent grammar
- The demonstration of effective listening skills
- Remaining free of any alcohol or controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Beachwood City School District
- Ability to hear and speak, read and write, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate a computer and other equipment, kneel, bend at the waist, reach overhead - above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies, ability to lift, carry, push and pull items up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds
