The Grounds Technician ensures safety, cleanliness, and operability of park grounds and facilities. This position operates power mowers, edger, and other small grounds maintenance equipment; monitors irrigation systems. It also operates various sprayers for weed control and uses fertilizer spreaders as needed. Daily duties include maintenance of restrooms, litter pickup, painting, and minor repairs on facilities, equipment, park furnishings, and amenities.
It may assist at City-sponsored events when needed.
- Operates weed eaters, rakes, blowers, push mowers, and cleans in/around parks.
- Loads equipment (pole saw, weed eater, blower, hedger, chainsaw, generator) on truck and trailer and may drive to locations.
- Prunes and removes dead or damaged trees and shrubs.
- Assists with minor playground assembly and concrete work.
- Prepares for special events (e.g., Christmas, tournaments, Special Olympics, July 4th).
- Performs preventative maintenance including checking and changing oil and minor repairs of equipment and vehicles.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
- Previous lawn maintenance experience.
Skills And Abilities
Ability to perform minor repairs, follow written and oral instructions, and operate tools and machinery necessary for maintenance and repairs.
Work Environment & Other ProvisionsAttendance is an essential function of this position. The City may require overtime. The position may provide services during emergency situations, including evacuations.
Overall Position Strength Demands:
Medium Work — Exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
