The Slitter Helper shall assist in the functions of Slitting material in accordance with plant policies and procedures. He/she will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift.

Working Conditions

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment; hot when weather is hot and cold when weather is cold. Greasy, dirty and noisy environment. Work involves lifting, pulling and/or pushing of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats.

Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

Qualifications

A High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience With Operating Automated Equipment Preferred.
Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
Manual dexterity required for operating, machinery, hand tools and hand held technical devices.
Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and Recoil operation is a plus.
Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require over-time and weekends when needed.

Responsibilities

Assisting slitter operator as needed.

Clean and lubricate machines.

Assist with set up or tend machines to saw, cut, shear, slit, steel coil material.

Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed to be processed.

Employee must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.

Employee must follow the 5S implementation procedure.

Activities

Secure the slit coils by installing banding.

Inspecting equipment, materials to identify defects.

Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and keep it free and clear of debris.

Check that all machinery is properly serviced before starting up and during shift.

Assists in repair and replacement of equipment during maintenance shutdowns.

Communicate with crew to achieve a quality product.

Assist in changeovers and Mill stops.

This position may require operating Forklift and Overhead Crane.

Other duties as assigned.

Authority and Obligation

This position has the authority to stop Slitting machine operation at any time that is deemed necessary for reasons of safety, quality, or priority.
