Job Summary
We are looking for a Community Service Specialist to join the Baytown Police Department with strong customer service skills. The specialist will assist citizens in providing information, answering questions, and entering police reports, supporting the department’s mission while enjoying an attractive benefits package.
Responsibilities- Answer general inquiries from the public in person and by telephone, screen calls, and redirect citizens to the appropriate office, officer or supervisor.
- Take reports regarding criminal offenses, gather pertinent information (incident location, type, complainant details, etc.), and generate reports in Versadex.
- Review reports submitted to Cop Logic and forward them to the supervisor for final approval.
- Provide general office support, including answering phones, taking messages, and sending/receiving faxes.
- Assist in the release of vehicles held by the Police Department and ensure the appropriate fees are collected from records.
- Enter information related to Emergency Protective Orders, runaways, missing persons, and lost and stolen items into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Texas Criminal Information Center (TCIC).
- Collect and process written citations into Versadex and Brazos, copying citations to the Baytown Municipal Court.
- Maintain knowledge of Versadex, NCIC/TCIC, policies, procedures, memorandums, and directives governing Community Service Specialists.
- Perform shift work as required, including overtime, weekends, evenings, and nights. Attendance and flexibility are essential.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Six months related experience dealing with the public and customer service.
- Experience using a multi‑line telephone system.
- Ability to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint‑based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
- Prior military or police related experience.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Keyboard proficiency and experience with a multiline telephone.
- Strong customer service skills.
The ideal candidate can multitask, establish priorities, work independently, and remain organized. They must pay close attention to detail in data entry, typing, and proofreading. Calm, composed, and able to handle rapidly changing situations under both stressful and non‑stressful conditions, they communicate clearly in person and on the phone. They can process multiple requests simultaneously, locate data in computer systems, write concise, clear communications, maintain confidentiality, and work well with coworkers and the public.
