Residential Counselor / Direct Support Professional

Full‑time position at Mercy Haven Bay Shore Community Residence. Earn $19.50 per hour and gain a fulfilling career dedicated to individuals in crisis.

• Participate in planning and evaluation of individual service plans and monitor plan objectives.
• Hands‑on training and assist residents with activities of daily living; document interactions.
• Accompany residents on recreational outings and travel training exercises.
• Provide counseling, behavioral intervention, and crisis management.
• Assist with day‑to‑day management of the community residence.
• Administer residence in the absence of the Assistant Administrator.
• Notify the Assistant Administrator/Residential Administrator of any medical or psychiatric emergency.
• Provide transportation as needed for shopping, medical appointments, etc.
• Write progress notes on residents’ activities daily.
• Monitor management of medication.
• Maintain cleanliness of the residence and staff office.
• Advocate for residents’ benefits and teach skills needed to gain independence.
• Coordinate staff contacts with local service providers and plan for discharge jointly.
• Work with support services on behalf of residents’ best interest.
• Assist and model techniques required to maintain a clean and healthy living environment.
• Responsible for other related activities.

• High School Diploma or equivalent with related experience required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services preferred.
• Related experience working with people living with mental illness or other disabilities that require assistance in day‑to‑day living highly preferred.
• Physical requirements:
  
  sits, stands, stoops, squats, walks, and moves intermittently during work hours; may push or pull 10–15 pounds daily, may push or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• A valid NYS Driver’s License in good standing.

Shift 1:
Sundays 1 pm‑9 pm, Mondays 11 am‑9:30 pm, Tuesdays 11 am‑9:30 pm, Wednesdays 9 am‑7:30 pm

Bay Shore Community Residence.
