Job Summary

Pre‑licensure graduate of an accredited nursing program who actively participates in the SSM Health New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. Under the direction of an RN, provides care to patients within scope of role and professional standards. Responsible for delivery of age‑appropriate care for assigned patients with a wide variety of medical conditions. Nurse Residents in Oklahoma can perform responsibilities designated below;

residents in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Missouri can perform all listed responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements Primary Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the RN preceptor.
  • Perform delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing care activities for the population served. Delegated specialized tasks may include anything for which training was received in the approved nursing program (Oklahoma: does not include tasks/skills which must be performed by a licensed nurse).
  • Conduct patient assessments—including biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural, and age‑appropriate needs. Assess nutrition, pain management, and signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect to develop, evaluate, and modify patient’s plan of care.
  • Develop a realistic, comprehensive patient/family education plan using appropriate resources and methods of instruction; provide patient/family health education and coaching.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation (Oklahoma) in accordance with policies and procedures. Monitor and evaluate delivery of nursing care given by team members based on patient needs and professional judgment.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other health‑care professionals regarding all aspects of patient care.
  • Participate in training to understand and perform patient care (Oklahoma).
  • Complete competency requirements satisfactorily (Oklahoma).
  • Complete required training; seek assistance and ask questions as needed to learn and understand role (Oklahoma).
  • Demonstrate professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model; use the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to patient needs (Oklahoma).
  • Work in a state of constant alertness and safety (Oklahoma).
  • Perform other duties as assigned (Oklahoma).
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.
  • For Illinois: official passing score on NCLEX.
Experience
  • No experience required.
Required Professional Licenses and Certifications
  • State of Illinois
    • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
    • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) within 3 months of official NCLEX pass date (Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation).
    • Official NCLEX Pass Letter (Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation).
  • State of Missouri and Oklahoma
    • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
    • Fail status on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses within 3 months of graduation date (Pearson VUE).
    • NCLEX test date within 30 days (Pearson VUE).
  • State of Wisconsin
    • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
    • Fail status on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses within 3 months of graduation date (Pearson VUE).
    • NCLEX test date within 30 days (Pearson VUE).
    • Wisconsin Nursing Temporary Permit (State of Wisconsin).
