STS Technical Services is hiring a VFR Lead Helicopter Pilot to support air medical transport operations based in Bay City, Texas. This leadership role combines hands‑on flying with operational oversight, placing experienced pilots at the center of both mission execution and pilot team development.
Pilots in this role operate Bell 407 aircraft while overseeing base pilot operations, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and company procedures while maintaining a disciplined safety culture. Operations run 24 hours per day with rotating day and night flight schedules under VFR and Night Vision Goggle (NVG) conditions. Off‑duty housing is available, allowing pilots to remain focused on mission readiness and operational leadership while on rotation.
Position OverviewSTS Technical Services is recruiting an experienced VFR Lead Helicopter Pilot to support operations for a leading air medical transport provider in Bay City, Texas.
The Lead Pilot oversees a team of base pilots while continuing to perform line pilot duties. This role ensures compliance with FAA regulations, operational procedures, and company safety programs while supporting pilot development and base‑level operational efficiency.

7 days on / 7 days off rotation - 24 hour operational coverage
- Day and night flight operations
- VFR and NVG operations
- Off‑duty housing available
- Sign On Bonus:
Up to $75,000 - Competitive base pay, shift bonuses, and annual safety and performance bonuses
- Relocation assistance may be available
- Supervise and develop base pilots under the direction of the Air Medical Base Supervisor and Operations Management
- Ensure pilot staff maintain the knowledge and skills required to safely operate aircraft per FAA regulations and the General Operations Manual (GOM)
- Coordinate scheduling, vacation coverage, and operational status reporting
- Approve bonus and expense vouchers while auditing routine base bills
- Participate in safety meetings and maintain compliance with Safety Management System and Destination Zero initiatives
- Support community outreach programs and maintain strong customer service relationships
- Maintain accurate and timely paperwork, reports, and operational communications
- Operate Bell 407 helicopter for air medical transport missions
- Assist with patient and equipment loading as required
- Maintain safe, efficient, and professional flight operations under a 24 hour mission schedule
- Commercial Helicopter Pilot Certificate
- Instrument Rating
- VFR and NVG qualified
- First Class FAA Medical
- 2,000 Total Flight Hours
- 1,500 Helicopter Flight Hours
- 1,000 PIC Helicopter Hours
- 500 Turbine Helicopter Hours
- 100 Unaided Night Hours — or —
- 50 Unaided Night + 100 Night Vision Goggle (NVG) Hours
- Maximum body weight: 235 lbs
- Must pass pre placement physical, drug screen, and background check
- Strong communication and internal and external customer service skills
- Interview and acceptance by management required
- Annual flu vaccine not required
- Candidates must reside within one hour of the base location
- 7 days on / 7 days off rotation
- Day and night flight operations
- Base schedule may rotate depending on operational needs
- Off‑duty housing available
