Equistar Chemicals, LP – a Lyondell Basell company, is seeking qualified candidates to fill multiple openings for unit operation technicians at their High Density Polyethylene chemical manufacturing facility located near Matagorda, Texas (13 miles south of Bay City).
Responsibilities- Responsible for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
- Perform duties in adherence with LYB procedures, standards, and specifications.
- Take personal leadership role in daily activities, task planning, incident investigations and work performance as they relate to LYB’s key focus areas:
Safety, Environmental, Quality, Reliability, and Cost of operation. - Take readings, utilize plant data/control systems and observe process conditions on a continual basis to maintain good unit control.
- Acquire and maintain process knowledge and changes to the unit to enable effective operation and detection of unusual process conditions; use knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Own the unit to ensure production rates and right-first-time results are maximized and the unit is maintained in proper operating condition.
- Provide accurate and timely communication to co-workers and collaborate with other functions to improve individual and unit performance. Contribute ideas, raise concerns, and promote an environment of respect.
- Perform minor maintenance on equipment and enter SAP work notifications for maintenance needs.
- Place systems in a safe condition for maintenance work, support maintenance activities and communicate status to the shift supervisor and coworkers.
- Serve on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development and special groups to improve the workplace environment.
- Participate in site Fire Brigade and Emergency Response Team activities, including Fire School and ongoing training.
- Participate in training and skill development of other operations technicians.
- Engage in frequent developmental dialogue with supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group performance and development.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Willing and able to work outside year-round under various weather conditions.
- Able to work 12-hour rotating shifts (which may include nights, weekends and some holidays) and provide overtime coverage.
- Capable of climbing (scaffolds, towers, vessels, etc.), working in a confined space and from elevated platforms, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Able to wear appropriate protective equipment.
- Possess the critical competencies for this position: communication, teamwork, problem solving and decision making, results orientation, initiative, relationship building, and technological orientation.
- Basic computer skills are a requirement.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment screening.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident).
- Two-year Associate’s Degree or higher; consideration given to applicants enrolled in a Process Technology AAS program with a graduation date of May 2026.
- One year of experience in a chemical manufacturing plant, refinery or industrial environment.
