Bronson Battle Creek Hospital Registered Nurse (RN) Medical ICU PRN/Per-Diem Variable Shift

Bronson Healthcare, Battle Creek, MI – hourly pay: $40.00–$44.00. Part‑time, variable shifts, 10 scheduled weekly hours.

Responsibilities
  • Manage care delivery for patients in the MCC unit under general supervision and within organizational policies, including assessment, planning, diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate care with other professionals, delegate tasks within scope, and maintain documentation and communication during each duty tour.
  • Authoritatively perform all patient‑care functions appropriate to acuity and complexity, ensuring quality outcomes and timely discharges.
Standards of Practice
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to patients’ health or the situation.
  • Assess patients’ physical and developmental needs, analyze data to identify appropriate needs, and document nursing history and physical/emotional needs.
  • Review vital signs to assess condition and detect deviations from normal.
  • Use assessment data to identify patient problems and confirm with patient and family when appropriate.
  • Document expected outcomes and plan of care, incorporating clinical pathways and outcome teaching records.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans, including patient education and interventions, while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
  • Manage care plans by delegating interventions, evaluating effectiveness, and documenting patient responses.
  • Regularly assess progress toward expected outcomes and adjust care accordingly.
Standards of Professional Performance
  • Systematically evaluate nursing practice quality, participate in quality improvement, and apply results to practice changes.
  • Maintain current knowledge and competency through ongoing education and professional activity.
  • Document competency evidence, comply with statutes and regulations, and provide culturally sensitive care.
  • Engage in self‑evaluation, peer review, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrate ethical practice, respect for patient autonomy, protect confidentiality, and advocate for patient and family.
  • Integrate research findings into practice and participate in research activities appropriate to education level.
  • Provide leadership in professional settings, attend unit staff meetings, and contribute to a healthy work environment.
  • Maintain competence in task delegation, patient safety, and communication with healthcare teams.
Specialized Responsibilities
  • Scrub RN tasks: interpret procedure card, assess supply cart, support operative procedures, and maintain equipment safety.
  • Perform scrub duties across multiple services (e.g., neuro, ortho STII).
  • Understand and execute workday swing bed documentation and specific patient care requirements.
  • Additional on‑call responsibilities for HDU department as required.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred; must obtain within 8 years of hire.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the State of Michigan.
  • BLS certification required (core orientation completion).
  • Critical care or ALS certification required for certain RN positions, unit specific.
  • Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum RN must obtain Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification within 6 months of completion of intermediate fetal monitoring.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze computer system data; constant verbal, written, and electronic communication.
