Our Project Engineer will support projects across Michigan and Indiana. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in supporting both preconstruction and project delivery functions. This position is responsible for assisting with scheduling, bidding, contractor coordination, and preconstruction planning while also providing field-level support as needed during active construction.

Reporting to the Director of Preconstruction, the Project Engineer bridges preconstruction strategy and field execution by ensuring accurate scope development, thorough documentation, constructability review, and proactive coordination among project managers, site superintendents, and design professionals.

Compensation:
Target range is $65,000-$85,000 plus a travel and phone allowance.

  • Assist with development of project schedules during preconstruction.
  • Assist with preparing public bidding documents and bidder communications.
  • Support bid leveling, scope comparison, and contractor recommendations.
  • Participate in constructability meetings, design reviews, and value engineering efforts.
  • Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawing reviews, and change documentation.
  • Maintain accurate project records including meeting minutes, logs, correspondence.
  • Assist in tracking internal and client budgets, committed costs, and potential change orders.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues.
  • Monitor work for compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality.
  • Assist with coordination of trades and sequencing of work activities.
  • Document daily site activities and report to project leadership.
  • Identify scope gaps or overlapping responsibilities in trade packages to prevent downstream change orders.
Project Engineer Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in construction management, estimating, project engineering, or field supervision.
  • Experience supporting public-sector K-12 projects preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and building codes.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements

This position is performed at active construction sites and requires frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. The role involves walking on uneven ground, climbing ladders, and operating around heavy machinery. The noise level is typically loud, and the employee may be exposed to dust, debris, and hazardous materials. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety vests, and steel-toed boots must be worn as required.

This role requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand or walk for extended periods, and perform tasks that require bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work hours may include early mornings, late evenings, and occasional weekends depending on project timelines. Travel to various job sites within the Midwest region is required.
