Job Summary / Description

WILX-TV, the NBC affiliate serving Lansing and Mid-Michigan, is seeking a Weekend Meteorologist / MMJ who is passionate about accurate forecasting, severe weather coverage, and storytelling across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social. This position is ideal for a meteorologist who can own the weather story and excel as a multimedia journalist - shooting, writing, editing, and publishing compelling content that serves our community.

This role offers the chance to forecast and report in one of the most dynamic weather regions in the country - delivering meaningful coverage that helps viewers make daily decisions and stay safe during high-impact events.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Analyze meteorological data to build accurate, compelling forecasts for Mid-Michigan.
  • Produce and present weather casts for newscasts, with clear, conversational delivery and strong breaking-weather performance.
  • Provide live, urgent coverage during severe and disruptive weather events, both in-studio and in the field as needed.
  • Create engaging weather graphics and explain complex weather conditions in an easy-to-understand way.
  • Pitch, shoot, write, edit, and present weather/science and general assignment stories for newscasts and digital platforms.
  • Coordinate assignments independently and meet deadline demands.
  • Publish daily weather and news content for digital platforms (web, app, streaming, and social media). Ensure content follows best practices and is optimized for digital audiences (headline writing, thumbnails, platform-first video).
  • Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist and news managers to support daily editorial planning.
  • Fill in for other meteorologists and/or MMJs as assigned, including schedule flexibility during severe weather or breaking news.
  • Participate in community appearances and station events as a professional representative of WILX-TV.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • On-air weather experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related field (equivalent professional experience considered).
  • Ability to ad-lib calmly and clearly during breaking news and severe weather coverage.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
