Operates a tractor hauling with the following types of trailers:
Walking Floors, End Dump, Flatbed, and Lowboys. Special routes of transport hauling solid waste or recycling materials. Vehicles transport materials from the Transfer Station to and from landfills, MRFs, mills, or special handling facilities.
- Safely drives truck on route in accordance with Smith System Driving principles.
- Secures containers by attaching hook to the container; uses control levers to pull the container onto the bed of the truck, secures straps and hand‑tarp individual containers as necessary.
- Provides distinguishably different level of service through courteous and expeditious customer service to the public and customers.
- Exhibits a positive attitude toward company, customer, and municipal goals.
- Operates hydraulic and lift equipment on the vehicle.
- Performs daily pre‑ and post‑trip inspections as set forth by Waste Pro procedures and DOT guidelines. Completes safety lane activity and DVIR daily in accordance with Waste Pro safety lane guidelines, including hood inspection, under‑carriage check, and fluid/air tire checks.
- Maintains a clean truck and washes exterior weekly. Inspection includes lifting hood, checking under hood, walking around, verifying fluid levels, air pressure, and gas pump fill.
- Performs manual duties in the clean‑up of scattered refuse; moves and empties large trash bins using truck hydraulics.
- Prepares, maintains, and submits required company and regulation‑mandated reports and documents.
- Responsible for all persons working on the vehicle during the designated route.
- Cooperates with all Department of Transportation and State requirements for operators of commercial motor vehicles.
- Must have a Class A CDL valid for the state in which the position works and a clean driving record.
- At least 1 year of previous experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL within the past 7 years.
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
- Understand refuse collection policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices; understand DOT and state requirements for commercial motor vehicle operators.
- Normal hearing with or without correction; normal vision with or without correction; normal range of body motion.
- Drive a front‑end, side, rear‑end, or roll‑off loading refuse truck, including right‑hand driver’s position on certain equipment, observing legal and defensive driving practices.
- Manipulate heavy equipment control levers.
- Follow a designated refuse collection route or work schedule.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Maintain written records and service responses.
- Speak and read English well enough to communicate with customers, co‑workers, dispatchers, and supervisors; understand highway and traffic signals; make legible entries on paperwork.
