NecessarySpecial Requirements
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license.
- Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
- An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
- Protect life and property, conduct proactive patrols, investigate auto crashes, theft, and injuries, and respond to calls for service.
- Direct traffic and enforce applicable laws while adhering to established policies.
- Effect arrests, when necessary on or adjacent to LSUHSC property.
- Greet visitors and the public while offering assistance and direction.
- Accept supervisory responsibility for LSU Health Sciences Center in the absence of a higher supervisory officer.
Appointment Type:
Probational.
All selected candidates in this position must complete a 13‑week Police Officer’s Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) academy held in Baton Rouge or Slidell to attain POST certification. The academy requires the passing of physical fitness training (running, sit‑ups, push‑ups, etc.), firearms training, defensive tactics training, and additional coursework.
Pay Rate is dependent upon applicant’s qualifications. Starting rates of pay are $18.58 for a PO 1, $19.88 for a PO 2, and $21.27 for a PO 3. An additional $2 premium pay, $1 longevity pay, and $2.50 shift differential are available for hours worked only.
These positions are in a Career Progression Group; vacancies may be filled at any of the three levels depending on experience.
