Overview
This is an Inland Fisheries biologist manager position serving as a staff advisor and expert regarding the statewide Aquatic Plant Control (APC) program for the Office of Fisheries. The incumbent will oversee the south Louisiana region of the APC program, including supervision of APC biologists and spray technicians, development of management strategies, recommendations for aquatic weed control, and providing program data summaries and reports.
General supervision is received from a Biologist Operations Manager on an as needed basis.
Qualifications- A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus six years of experience in wildlife or fisheries, forestry, or environmental science; OR
- A non-thesis master’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus five years of the required specialized experience; OR
- A master’s degree with a completed thesis or a doctorate in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources plus four years of the required specialized experience.

Job Duties- Responsible for personnel management, including recommendations for hiring, promotions, annual merit increases, performance reviews, and approval of leave requests.
- Makes recommendations to the division administrator and the Secretary for management and regulation of aquatic plant control management.
- Develops, approves, or establishes research projects for aquatic plant control management.
- Analyses highly technical biological data and prepares or edits technical and popular papers for publication.
- Participates on scientific committees or taskforces at the state or national level.
- Coordinates department public outreach programs and provides information upon request related to aquatic plant control management.

The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
