Who are we looking for?Our U.S. Central Environmental business is looking for a mid-senior level Natural Resources Specialist to join their Natural Resources team based out of Baton Rouge, LA
. Senior level applicants in Lake Charles or New Orleans are encouraged to apply as well. In this role, you will help lead a growing team of ecologists/scientists, manage projects, interface with clients, assist in the collection of biological data and prepare environmental reports and permit applications for federal, state, and local government agencies.
The preferred candidate for this role will be a “seller-doer” who can balance business development responsibilities with project obligations and personnel mentorship, have established client relationships in Louisiana, and be able to win work through GHD’s existing client base and/or new clients. Additional preference will be given to candidates experienced with natural resources permitting experience related to energy-sector work, including obtaining FERC regulatory approvals.
Maritime & coastal (ports) and railroad experience are desirable as well.
- Establish and develop strategic long‑term relationships with current clients, new clients and prospective teaming partners
- Dependent on experience, the selected candidate may be tasked with financial performance goals with respect to the development of revenue and backlog
- Lead technical projects: maintaining client satisfaction while ensuring projects are delivered safely and within scope, schedule, and budget
- Mentoring and training junior staff
- Conduct field assessments including wetland delineations and habitat assessments for rare, threatened or endangered flora and fauna
- Collect chemical and biological data including sampling of surface water, sediment, macroinvertebrates, soil, groundwater, etc. for purposes of site assessment and/or to support risk assessment projects
- Write and produce technical reports based on field data collection
- Liaise with federal, state, and municipal regulatory agencies
- Support existing GHD clients with the implementation of efficient and innovative solutions to address their project needs
- Approximately five to ten (5-10) years of experience in environmental consulting, or similar experience
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Biology, Ecology or related field
- Experience with managing/mentoring staff
- Professional certification such as a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), or similar preferred
- Expertise with local, state and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements; particularly those associated with USACE Section 10/404, USFWS, FERC, LDENR, LDWF and LDEQ
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work both within a team and independently
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects and tasks in a fast‑paced environment
- Able and willing to travel to job sites as needed for field activities
- HAZWOPER certification desirable
