Project Archaeologist – Providence
This is a full‑time position where the Project Archaeologist will participate in both office and field activities, supporting the Principal Investigator and Providence’s clients on a variety of projects. Assignments include writing research plans and site forms, conducting archaeological monitoring and recording, pedestrian and subsurface surveys, data collection and input, laboratory analysis, and other related tasks.
Minimum Qualifications- M.A./M.S. degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
- Must meet the Secretary of Interior’s professional qualifications standards for archaeology and be an RPA or be eligible to become an RPA.
- Minimum of three years of archaeological field experience with a professional cultural resources firm in the southeastern United States. Five years in Louisiana and/or the lower Mississippi Valley is preferred.
- Experience supervising one or more crews on projects of varying size, region, and agency.
- Ability to operate GPS units and navigate using USGS maps.
- Experience in artifact identification of both prehistoric and historic material for the southeastern United States.
- Report‑writing experience as lead author or contributor.
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.

- Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and Senior Staff on planning archaeological field projects, including monitoring surveys, subsurface surveys, evaluations, and data recovery projects.
- Oversee fieldwork for Phases I, II, and III investigations, and manage associated laboratory artifact cataloging, preservation, and analysis.
- Potentially oversee several field crews simultaneously.
- Conduct pre‑field research and contribute to technical reports, site forms, and small reports.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, policies, and procedures.
- Frequent travel, often on short notice.
- Extended overnight travel.
- Long distance walking, bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, digging, and other strenuous activities.
- Capability to lift and carry equipment up to 30 lbs.
- Work outdoors in variable weather and varied terrain for extended periods.
