About the RoleThe Registered Nurse (RN) in our Clear Path Surgical Clinic @ The Spine Hospital of Louisiana (SHOLA) coordinates and oversees the pre-admission testing process for surgical patients and their families. You’ll guide patients through surgical preparation, provide education, assess readiness, and serve as a key clinical liaison between surgeons, anesthesia, case management, and hospital departments.
This is a highly collaborative, patient-focused role that blends clinical assessment, education, and care coordination to support surgical readiness, patient safety, and exceptional outcomes.
What You’ll Do- Educate patients and families on surgical preparation, medications, fasting (NPO), arrival instructions, postoperative expectations, and transportation needs.
- Perform nursing assessments and identify patient learning needs to promote safe surgical outcomes.
- Coordinate pre-admission testing and documentation across surgeons’ offices, anesthesia, and hospital departments.
- Serve as a clinical liaison to ensure clear communication and smooth surgical preparation.
- Schedule, confirm, and manage pre-admission testing appointments.
- Complete pre-admission documentation both in-clinic and by phone with the same level of accuracy and care.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in team meetings.
- Assist with orientation and training of new team members.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current, unrestricted RN license (Louisiana)
- Current BLS certification (AHA)
- BSN
- Experience in perioperative services, pre-admission testing, ambulatory surgery, or a related clinical setting
- Enjoy patient education and building rapport
- Are organized, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure
- Communicate clearly and professionally
- Work well in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
- Like seeing the impact of your work before the patient ever reaches the OR
- Focused clinic environment (no bedside ratios)
