The RN Wound Care performs a variety of duties including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs designed to inform the patient, family, and significant other about the patient’s condition and treatment related to ostomy surgery, ostomies, and wound care. The role provides the full scope of Enterostomal Therapy practice, including education, counseling, research, and administration, within the scope of licensure as a registered nurse.

• Assess, plan, and implement individualized wound care programs for ostomy surgery patients.
• Educate patients, families, and significant others about ostomy care, wound management, and self-catheterization.
• Document patient care activities in accordance with documentation standards.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate care and promote patient outcomes.
• Serve as a clinical resource, mentor, and preceptor to other members of the healthcare team.
• Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice to enhance outcomes.
• Provide backup and support to others in the department as needed.

• Minimum 2–4 years of RN experience in wound care or a related area.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
• Current Louisiana State RN license with BLS certification.
• Proficient in English communication and computer skills.
• Ability to educate, mentor, and collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
