Patient Financial Counselor

Overview

Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive financial counseling to patients. Ensures that patients understand their financial responsibilities and assists them in navigating insurance benefits, payment plans, and financial assistance programs.

• Educate patients on their insurance coverage, out-of-pocket costs, and available payment options.
• Assist patients in understanding and interpreting their medical bills.
• Provide clear explanations of financial policies and procedures.
• Develop and discuss payment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
• Monitor and follow up on payment arrangements and outstanding balances.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to the improvement of financial counseling processes.
• Maintain accurate records of patient interactions, insurance verifications, and financial agreements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding patient financial counseling.
• Stay updated on changes in insurance policies, healthcare laws, and financial assistance programs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and serves in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of BROC.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to learn computerized medical billing and collections.
• Prior experience in a collections Representative position preferred.
• Knowledge of and experience with CPT and ICD-9 coding.
