MRI Technologist - Full Time - Baton Rouge Hospital
Ochsner Health invites applications for the full‑time MRI Technologist position located in Baton Rouge. The role maintains a safe MRI environment, assesses patients, and safely performs routine MRI procedures per established protocols. The technologist also serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.
Responsibilities- Verify physician orders and procedure accuracy.
- Use radiology information systems to facilitate patient care.
- Explain procedures to patients and obtain informed consent.
- Operate MRI equipment independently to complete imaging procedures according to protocol, including IV placement.
- Review images for diagnostic quality prior to transmission.
- Perform quality control procedures and follow remediation guidelines.
- Assist with departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
- Adapt care to support patient privacy and cultural needs.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in allied health preferred.
- Minimum 6 months supervised MRI clinical scanning experience required; clinical MRI experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Registered ARRT (or unlimited state license); alternative certified imaging professionals accepted.
- Advanced MRI certification recognized by the ACR Registry required within two years of hire; preferred to have a current advanced certification.
- Proficiency with computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of MRI procedures and technical terminology.
- Ability to work independently and in a flexible schedule, including nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and work calmly under pressure.
- General knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and hemodynamics relevant to disease states.
- Ability to identify stenosis or occlusion on imaging and assist physicians with interventional procedures requiring ultrasonic guidance.
- Ability to provide care consistent with patients’ age, social, spiritual, and cultural needs.
Typical duties require the ability to lift objects up to 100 pounds occasionally, or 50 pounds frequently. Work may involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, tissue, hazardous medications, and hazardous waste. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities.
