Overview
The position is in our BROC Therapy Services Bluebonnet office and reports directly to the Office Supervisor for all matters, including job duties, performance evaluations, approval of leave, and for other assignments as deemed necessary for the benefit of the Baton Rouge Orthopaedic Clinic (BROC). It also reports to the Therapy Site Supervisor for all clinical operations.
ResponsibilitiesNATURE OF DUTIES:
- Performs a variety of medical office duties ranging from receptionist, checking patients in for appointments, appointment scheduling, coordinating medical records, and correspondence.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Greets patients or customers in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
- Checks-in patients for appointments.
- Provides secretarial services for the professional staff.
- Answers incoming calls and directs them to the appropriate personnel or takes messages.
- Schedules appointments for patients in the office and over the phone.
- Processes incoming referrals.
- Completes the registration of the patient, explaining the paperwork to be completed to the patient if necessary.
- Ensures that a clear copy of the patient’s current insurance card(s) and demographic information is entered into the patient’s medical record.
- Presents patient with explanation of insurance benefits provided by the Therapy Billing Department at their first visit.
- Handles all prescription and authorization alerts.
- Enters all information for new patients into the medical record. Scans and polls needed documents.
- Enters electronic messages to other departments to assist with patient flow.
- Collects the appropriate co-pays or balances due.
- Performs appropriate, timely, and accurate documentation in the medical record as is applicable to patient service duties.
- Maintains HIPAA privacy and security and provides the BROC Notice of Privacy Practices to new patients or to any person who requests it.
- Distributes patient satisfaction surveys as instructed by Supervisor or upon patient request.
- Performs other related duties as assigned and serves in whatever other capacity deemed necessary for successful completion of the mission and goals of BROC.
- Knowledge of patient/customer reception techniques.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Good communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to learn computerized medical office systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- General office and secretarial skills preferred.
