About this position
The position serves as both the DOTD District Railroad Coordinator, Crash Reimbursement Specialist, and the technical expert on Maintenance Management Systems. The DOTD District Railroad Coordinator is to serve as the district-wide railroad technical expert, advisor, and coordinator. The incumbent is required to have specialized knowledge of the federally mandated LA DOTDR ail Inventory Manager System (RIMS) and serves as a liaison to communicate and coordinate design, construction, traffic, and operations matters concerning highway/rail construction and safety projects between the Department and the Class 1 Railroads and all the Short Line Railroads in the District.

THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO CURRENT PERMANENT CLASSIFIED DOTD EMPLOYEES ONLY
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology.

Job Duties:
- Inspect and evaluate public highway-railroad crossings throughout District 61 to ensure compliance with federal safety standards and railroad requirements.
- Coordinate DOTD maintenance, construction, and traffic activities at or near railroad crossings, including permits, flaggers, train coordination, and roadway closures or detours.
- Serve as lead inspector for railroad crossing projects, including new crossings, signal installations, surface repairs, and safety improvements.
- Conduct field inspections to assess roadway approaches, sight distance, crossing surfaces, signals, and signage in accordance with FRA standards and the MUTCD.
- Act as construction coordinator and inspector for railroad safety projects, performing QA/QC, contract administration, and daily project documentation.
- Maintain and update the district’s highway-rail crossing inventory and provide verified data to DOTD Headquarters and partner agencies.
- Serve as the district liaison for railroad safety matters, including crash data reporting and coordination of damage claims and reimbursement documentation.
- Provide district-wide user support and subject matter expertise for DOTD maintenance systems (AGILE and SAP), and assist with emergency or disaster response as needed.

Appointment Type: Promotional, open only to current permanent classified employees of DOTD. May be filled as a Job Appointment.
Compensation: Engineering Technician Consultant - 2,057.60/biweekly
