Position Overview
:
The Akian College of Science and Engineering’s BS in Engineering Sciences invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Aerospace Engineering (Autonomous and Intelligent Systems) at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in July 2026. Faculty members at AUA are expected to teach three courses per semester, pursue an active research agenda, and engage in program development and university service.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses such as mechanics, engineering dynamics, control systems, systems engineering, and mechatronic design.
  • Contribute to curricular and programmatic developments.
  • Engage actively in research that contributes to the fields of Aerospace Engineering (Autonomous and Intelligent Systems) and publish findings in high impact journals.
  • Develop new courses such as advanced control systems, engineering computing and simulation, UAV systems design, artificial intelligence in aerospace applications, sensor fusion and estimation theory, computer vision for robotics and aerospace, and related fields.
  • Mentor students in their academic and research pursuits, including capstone project supervision and independent studies.
  • Participate in program, college, and university service activities.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Dean.
Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related discipline. Applicants at the assistant professor level should have some teaching experience and a record of peer-reviewed publications. Requirements for this position include:

  • PhD degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer engineering, or related field.
  • Documented experience in research and teaching in several of the following areas: advanced control systems, engineering computing and simulation, UAV systems design, artificial intelligence in aerospace applications, sensor fusion and estimation theory, computer vision for robotics and aerospace, or related fields.
  • Documented ability to do research in other areas, such as autonomous navigation, mapping, and guidance, AI-based decision-making in aerospace operations, learning-based control (reinforcement learning, adaptive systems), sensor fusion for navigation and environment perception, real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop systems.
  • Documented experience in teaching in English.
  • Documented experience in student supervision, including thesis supervision.
  • Documented experience in collaboration with companies and/or other organizations in research and education.
  • Documented experience in applying for research funding or involvement in Horizon Europe or the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded projects.
Additional Information

Compensation:
Compensation is commensurate with the university-wide pay scale and will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
