PositionSummary
The Electrical Engineering Project Manager serves as a technical subject matter expert (SME) and project leader for the engineering and execution of utility‑scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects delivered under EPC contracts. This role combines hands‑on electrical engineering design oversight with project management responsibility, ensuring technical accuracy, constructability, schedule adherence, and commercial alignment from early development through commissioning and handover.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & BESS Engineering (SME)
- Serve as electrical engineering SME for utility‑scale BESS projects (standalone and co‑located with PV or wind).
- Define and review BESS electrical system architecture, including:
- Battery containers/racks
- Power Conversion Systems (PCS)
- MV collection systems
- Step‑up transformers
- HV interconnection facilities (POI)
- Oversee and/or perform engineering design for:
- Single‑line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, and schematics
- Grounding and lightning protection systems
- Short‑circuit, load flow, arc flash, and protection coordination studies
- Control, communication, and SCADA interfaces
- Review vendor‑supplied documentation from OEMs (BESS, PCS, transformers, switch gear) for compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards including NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, IEC, UL, NESC, and local AHJ requirements.
- Act as Electrical Project Manager for assigned EPC projects, managing engineering scope from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through commissioning.
- Develop and manage engineering execution plans, schedules, and deliverable matrices aligned with EPC milestones.
- Coordinate cross‑functional engineering disciplines (civil, structural, controls, protection & controls, SCADA, commissioning).
- Manage engineering budgets, change management, and technical risk mitigation.
- Lead design review meetings with internal teams, subcontracted engineering firms, owners, utilities, and OEMs.
- Support procurement with technical evaluations, bid clarifications, and vendor selection.

- Support interconnection applications, grid studies, and utility technical reviews.
- Provide technical input during owner and lender due diligence reviews.
- Participate in constructability reviews and support field execution teams during construction and commissioning.
- Support construction teams with RFIs, field issue resolution, and design clarifications.
- Oversee electrical system testing, commissioning, and energization activities.
- Review and approve commissioning procedures, test reports, and as‑built documentation.
- Ensure smooth transition from construction to operations, including turnover packages and closeout documentation.
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
- 8–15+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience in EPC environments.
- 5+ years of direct experience with utility‑scale BESS projects (standalone or hybrid).
- Proven experience acting as technical lead and/or project manager on EPC‑delivered energy projects.
- Technical Expertise
- Deep understanding of BESS system design, PCS operation, and grid‑connected energy storage.
- Strong knowledge of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems (15kV–345kV).
- Experience with electrical engineering software such as ETAP, SKM, CYME, PSCAD, AutoCAD, and/or Revit.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex EPC projects with multiple stakeholders.
