This position is responsible for managing a program which includes engineering, maintenance, construction, and safety aspects of public use airports in the Louisiana Airport System. This position is also responsible for coordinating with airport officials and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in order to ensure compliance with state guidelines. This position is primarily assigned to a region of the state; however, the incumbent of this position may be assigned to other locations around the state as needed or as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in the development, implementation, or administration of a transportation or safety program; or in engineering, architecture, geography, human resources, financial operations, information technology, risk management, policy planning, or administrative services; OR
  • Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus two years of experience in the development, implementation, or administration of a transportation or safety program; or in engineering, architecture, geography, human resources, financial operations, information technology, risk management, policy planning, or administrative services; OR
  • A bachelor's degree plus two years of experience in the development, implementation, or administration of a transportation or safety program; or in engineering, architecture, geography, human resources, financial operations, information technology, risk management, policy planning, or administrative services; OR
  • An advanced degree plus one year of experience in the development, implementation, or administration of a transportation or safety program; or in engineering, architecture, geography, human resources, financial operations, information technology, risk management, policy planning, or administrative services.

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties

  • Manages, directs, implements, and evaluates state aviation transportation development programs on the regional level to achieve multimodal transportation goals and objectives.
  • Assists in the annual prioritization of airport capital improvement projects and associated federal and state funding for recommendation to the Commissioner of Multimodal Commerce.
  • Conducts thorough physical reviews of runways, taxiways, lighting systems, approach clearances, navigational aids, service facilities, obstruction analysis and other areas that may pose a hazard to public safety.
  • Reports discrepancies to airport management and airport sponsors and enters all appropriate data into the federal airport data information portal.
  • Reviews airport layout plans and airport master plans.
  • Reviews and recommends approval of all applications for airport, heliport and vertiport landing area registration in accordance with federal and state statutes, regulations, guidelines and policies.
  • Coordinates with the Federal Aviation Administration officials on all aspects of standardized criterion for airport safety standards.
