HDR Engineering is looking for a Substation Engineering Manager/Team Lead to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.
As a Substation EM/TL in a well‑established Power Delivery practice, you’ll draw upon your broad technical knowledge and experience in design and construction of high‑voltage substation projects to lead, guide, and advise clients, projects, and teams. Having previously performed a leading technical role on increasingly complex substation projects, you’ll be ready to undertake greater challenges and responsibilities. The EM/TL is also responsible for hiring, developing, and direct supervision of a team of junior and/or mid‑level engineers, technicians, and/or project support staff.
Responsibilities- partnership with a PM, responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and client management, while the EM/TL leads the technical team and execution of project deliverables.
- Develop and implement a project execution plan for technical aspect of projects.
- Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.
- Support the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
- Work with local area and practice leadership to hire, mentor, train, and/or supervise a team of Project Engineers, EITs, or CADD/Designers.
- Coordinate and/or perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a world‑class quality product to the client; also perform quality checks or reviews of projects from other teams as needed.
- Lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
- Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise, and attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to the discipline.
- Assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
- Participate in project reviews as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Technical design experience with high‑voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity.
- Substation design experience with voltages of 230 kV and above.
- Conceptual knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components.
- Previous consulting firm experience desired.
- Previous staff supervision experience preferred.
- Self‑starter with動 strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Understands IEEE, ANSI, and other applicable design and equipment standards.
- Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, departmental, technical managers, and project staff.
- Experience with industry‑standard design software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Some travel may be required.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 7 years experience.
- Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role.
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
- Good leadership and organizational skills.
