This is a full-time 9-month position, 7.5 hours per day

Louisiana School for the Deaf
Established in 1852, LSD has a proud tradition of educating deaf and hard of hearing children. We focus on providing quality education through innovative teaching methods, rigorous curriculum, state-of-the-art technology, and the American Sign Language/English Bilingual Approach. Our program includes extracurricular activities, leadership opportunities, and mentoring by deaf and hard of hearing adult role models. Our goal is to ensure full communication access and to promote literacy and effective communication skills in a bilingual environment.

- Belief in the potential of all students to succeed academically and beyond.
- Louisiana teaching certification, 2+ years of experience, preferably with similar student backgrounds.
- Certification in deaf education preferred.
- Sign Language Proficiency at an advanced level preferred.
- Passion for working with deaf and hard of hearing students and commitment to professional growth.
- Strong classroom management, content knowledge, and engagement skills.
- Participation in extracurricular activities and school culture initiatives.
Planning for Postsecondary Transitions
- Design lessons aligned with Louisiana State Standards and school curriculum.
- Use assessments to measure student learning and mastery.
- Deep content knowledge and passionate delivery.
Building a Positive Classroom Culture
- Establish high expectations and positive relationships.
- Create an engaging, rigorous, and respectful learning environment.
- Use restorative practices and social-emotional learning strategies.
- Maintain regular communication with students and families.
Lesson Delivery and Data-Driven Instruction
- Execute lessons with fidelity, passion, and energy.
- Use formative data to adjust instruction in real-time.
- Reflect and plan based on student data to improve learning outcomes.
Supporting Diverse Learners
- Implement Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions within RTI framework.
- Monitor intervention efficacy and adjust as needed.
- Provide accommodations and modifications to meet individual needs.
- Commit to tutoring and additional support hours.
Collaborative Teamwork
- Participate in all team and school-wide meetings.
- Collaborate to improve school success.
- Propose solutions and innovations for school improvement.
