Job Responsibilities:
The Department of Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising (TAM) is seeking a tenure-track assistant/associate professor of apparel design (65% teaching, 30% research, 5% service). The successful candidate will contribute to LSU’s land-, sea-, and space-grant institution by integrating innovative design scholarship, technology-driven pedagogy, and collaborative research that address emerging challenges in the apparel and textile industries.
This faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses that may include, but are not limited to, draping, CAD for the fashion industry, pattern design with computer application, emerging technologies in apparel design, and introduction to research in textiles, apparel design, and merchandising. TAM is particularly interested in candidates with research in apparel design technology in the apparel industry.
In addition, the faculty member will be expected to conduct scholarship related to their field, acquire external funding for such scholarship, and publish in peer-reviewed journals as well as participate in juried exhibitions; contribute to advising and recruitment of both undergraduate and graduate students; supervise graduate student research; and provide service to the department, college, university, and discipline.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising or related area; established college-level teaching record as graduate student, instructor or above; demonstrated record of scholarship, participation in juried exhibitions, proficiency with current industry software and technologies, and ability to obtain external funding; evidence of teaching excellence, graduate and undergraduate level advising, and service consistent with appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of courses within the Textile, Apparel Design and Merchandising curriculum (e.g., draping, CAD for the fashion industry, pattern design with computer application, emerging technologies in apparel design, introduction to research); proficiency with current industry software and technologies; membership in appropriate professional and/or academic organizations; ability to develop industry partnerships
