Position: Reading Specialist - Immediate start!

Reading Specialist – BASIS Baton Rouge Primary Campus

BASIS Charter Schools invites applications for a Reading Specialist with an immediate start. The specialist will support classroom instruction and extend a research‑based reading program for K‑5 students.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with teachers to analyze assessment results and plan engaging instruction that builds fluency and comprehension across content areas.
  • Attend weekly planning sessions with classroom teachers to identify students who need differentiated instruction and suggest accommodations.
  • Provide intervention support to improve student comprehension and fluency in K‑5 classrooms.
  • Conduct ongoing student assessments using multiple assessment tools and analyze performance data.
  • Model best teaching practices to help teachers differentiate instruction and implement classroom accommodations.
  • Meet regularly with administration and other professionals to discuss student progress and share strategies.
  • Attend parent‑teacher conferences as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education (or 24+ credit hours) – advanced degree preferred.
  • Valid fingerprint clearance and/or satisfactory background check.
  • State teaching credential or equivalent state‑authorized subject test clearance.
  • Minimum two years of K‑5 classroom teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post‑graduate work in literacy or a master’s in Education with a focus on reading.
  • Strong communication skills for teaching concepts with precision and confidence.
  • High GPA in major and excellent recommendations.
  • Experience working with children, open to new ideas in teaching.
