Choral Artists/Section Leaders – All Voice Parts
DESCRIPTION St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, LA invites applications for staff singer positions in all voice parts (SATB). The singers will serve as section leaders for the St. George Adult Choir most Sundays. Opportunities to sing with other section leaders as a small ensemble for Masses are also scheduled throughout the year as well as cantor/solo opportunities. The full choral season runs from the second Sunday in September through the third weekend in May.
Responsibilities- Scheduling is usually a two-hour call on Sunday mornings. There is a rehearsal at 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and then the choir sings at the 9:30 a.m. Mass.
- Scheduling is flexible, but successful applicants will be asked to make a prioritized commitment to St. George liturgies during the Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the Easter/Triduum holidays.
- Singers can expect between 50 and 60 calls during the full choir season and are paid $80 per two-hour call.
- The Wednesday night one- and one-half hour rehearsal is optional at the pay of $45 per Wednesday call.
- Wedding and funeral opportunities are available and are paid on a different call/fee schedule.
- Working towards or have completed at least a bachelor’s degree in music (preferably vocal or choral conducting emphasis).
- A skilled musician able to read music well (piano skills not required but useful).
- Strong vocal technique with good pitch sense.
- Strong choral and solo artist.
- Vocal flexibility in a variety of musical styles including Gregorian chant and Early Music.
- While preference will be given to practicing Catholics, the positions are also open to those who willingly adhere to the Catholic traditions and participate fully in worship while serving as section leaders in the Adult Choir.
