Director – Economic Sanctions & Export Controls

KPMG US is seeking a Director to lead our Legal Risk Management Compliance team, focusing on export controls, sanctions, and technology controls for complex engagements.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee regulatory horizon scanning, change management, and risk register maintenance for export control exposures.
  • Develop, maintain, and update export control policies, including DDTC registration and ITAR/EAR compliance.
  • Design and deliver training programs for engagement teams and stakeholders on export control obligations.
  • Establish monitoring mechanisms, perform periodic control testing, and prepare compliance dashboards for leadership review.
  • Lead investigations into potential export control violations, develop corrective action plans, and coordinate remediation with audit and regulatory bodies.
  • Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG’s courteous work environment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum ten years of recent experience in sanctions and export controls; prior experience in a multi-stakeholder environment is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree or Juris Doctor and certifications such as CECP are preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. export control regulations (ITAR, EAR) and DDTC requirements.
  • Strong understanding of federal contracting requirements, CUI handling, and regulatory risk management.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and senior leadership.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment‑based visa sponsorship.
