Job Description
The Assurance Senior will coordinate day‑to‑day “in‑charge” duties of planning, fieldwork, and wrap‑up, which includes preparing financial statements with disclosures, applying relevant GAAP principles, and documenting, validating, testing, and assessing various control systems. The role also serves as the client contact for basic questions and information, and may be involved in reviews and agreed‑upon procedure engagements.
Responsibilities- Control Environment
- Apply transactional flow knowledge and key cycles to complete audit work.
- Document, validate, and assess the design and operating effectiveness of client internal controls.
- Identify and communicate suggested improvements to internal controls and accounting procedures to reduce risk.
- Supervise and review the work of audit staff.
- GAAP
- Apply governing principles to client transactions and document understanding of these principles.
- Communicate financial statement disclosure requirements to clients.
- Drafter complex financial statements with disclosures.
- Identify, analyze, and discuss alternative GAAP applications with team members and clients.
- Identify complex accounting issues for resolution by superiors.
- Coaching less experienced team members in new areas.
- SEC and PCAOB
- Read and review client SEC filings, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare required communications to the client and audit committee.
- Plan and execute Section 404 internal control audits, including testing and deficiency evaluation.
- GAAS
- Apply audit skepticism and determine testing scope.
- Utilize BDO audit manuals and document deviations with approval.
- Apply GAAS to complex issues and consult others as appropriate.
- Methodology
- Coordinate day‑to‑day conduct of audit plan, ensuring field work meets timelines and budget.
- Apply BDO audit approach, tools, and technology to execute quality audit services.
- Identify and propose outcomes for critical issues.
- Research
- Use internal and external research tools to support audit matters.
- Investigate complex accounting areas, document findings, and assess impact.
- Collaborate with engagement manager on audit strategy and planning documents.
- Other duties as required.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback to audit associates.
- Supervise work assignments within the engagement team.
Skills and Abilities
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (required) or bachelor’s degree in another field with CPA certification (required).
- Master’s degree in Accountancy (preferred).
- Experience
- Two or more years of relevant audit experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services (required).
- Prior basic supervisory experience (preferred).
- License/Certification
- Eligible to sit for CPA exams upon starting employment and actively pursuing completion (required).
- CPA certification (preferred).
- Software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (preferred).
- Experience with assurance applications and research tools (preferred).
- Language
- Not applicable.
- Solid understanding of audit stages for basic public and private company audits.
- Knowledge of internal accounting controls and professional standards (GAAP, GAAS, Sarbanes‑Oxley, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; adaptable to various audiences.
- Ability to multitask and work independently or in a team.
- Superior analytical and diagnostic skills with a focus on accurate, detailed solutions.
- Project management skills.
