Staff Accountant

Job Description
Helix Community Schools is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our accounting operations-including grant accounting-and contributes directly to the organization's overall financial health.

This position is responsible for reconciling all balance sheet accounts, preparing journal entries, producing financial statements, and developing and maintaining supporting spreadsheets. Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on departmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Accounting Operations Support:
  Perform daily accounting tasks across accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and account reconciliations, ensuring accurate and timely processing.

• Grant Accounting Assistance:
  Support grant accounting activities by tracking expenses, maintaining documentation, and ensuring compliance with all funding requirements.

• Financial Reporting:
  Assist in preparing and analyzing financial statements and internal reports in alignment with GAAP.

• Regulatory and Stakeholder Reporting:
  Under supervision, compile and submit financial data and reports for internal management, grantors, and regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with deadlines.

• Process Improvements:
  Identify and recommend process enhancements to increase the efficiency and accuracy of accounting procedures.

• Budget Support:
  Assist in the development and maintenance of annual budgets and financial forecasts by gathering and organizing relevant financial data.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  
  Work with internal departments to provide financial insights and support the implementation of operational initiatives.

• Audit Preparation:
  Prepare audit schedules, maintain required documentation, and support both internal and external audit processes.

Qualifications

• Education:
  
  Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Experience:
  
  Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in accounting or finance. Nonprofit or education sector experience is a plus.

• Technical
  
  Skills:
  
  Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, particularly grant accounting. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Experience with MIP Fund Accounting is a plus.

• Analytical
  
  Skills:
  
  Excellent attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Communication
  
  Skills:
  
  Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
