Overview

36 hours per week, 52.14 weeks per year, + 7.5% Shift Allowance, Permanent

The Play Team is part of Nets, Land and Countryside service. This small team provides an inspection and maintenance service covering West Lothian Council's play assets i.e. play areas, ball courts, skate parks etc. The team comprises three Play Area Inspectors and one Senior Play Inspector.

Role

The Play Area Inspector role affords the postholder the opportunity to travel extensively throughout West Lothian and contribute positively to delivering excellent free to use outdoor play facilities to all.

Responsibilities
  • Complete routine inspections, and identify and complete required repairs. Repairs are completed using a variety of hand tools and machines. Where appropriate parts or complex repairs are required, these are communicated to the Senior Play Inspector.
  • The routine inspection programme is designed to ensure safe, clean, and working play equipment. The role is predominately lone working in all weather conditions. A council vehicle is provided.
  • The postholder will be required to ensure compliance with all relevant guidance, procedures, and legislation. This includes regular training and health surveillance.
  • The postholder will also be required to deal with the public, including where the council has failed to provide an acceptable level of service.
  • The role may require occasionally providing cover for cemeteries services including burial services. This is on a voluntary basis only.
Salary and hours

Salary £31,046.24 to £32,866.97 (excluding shift allowance).

The post is contracted to 36 hours per week, working a two-week cycle of Mon to Thu, followed by Mon to Sat (half day). Hours are 07:00 to 15:00 weekdays, 07:00 to 11:30 Sat. The post is subject to a shift allowance of 7.5%.

Qualifications
  • Professional Play Inspector certification or relevant experience
  • Good communications skills and IT literacy
  • Ability to use complex plant and equipment
  • Full UK Driving license (minimum Category

    B)
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and use initiative to solve day to day problems.
