Job Overview
This role provides continuing education and support to the registered and non‑registered nursing team. The position involves bedside care, role‑modeling, preparation and delivery of ongoing education and training programmes within Oncology.
Main Duties and Responsibilities General Responsibilities
1.1 To work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:- The assessment of care and health education needs.
- The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
1.2 The post holder has a responsibility for maintaining agreed standards of nursing care through effective management of the nursing team, under the leadership of the Senior Sisters’ and Matron.1.3 To be familiar with the Trust admission and discharge policy, escalation plans, internal significant incident and major incident policies, providing leadership and support where required.1.4 Maintain efficient and effective communication with senior colleagues and with all members of the multidisciplinary team.1.5 To maintain effective, complete and accurate documentation for all aspects of patient care.1.6 To be aware of own limitations and the need for continuing education and be prepared to discuss these with relevant senior colleagues.1.7 To accept challenge of own practice by all members of the multidisciplinary team.1.8 To provide a professional and competent role model to colleagues within Oncology.1.9 To support staff through their annual appraisal performance review / revalidation addressing individual development needs and monitoring performance in line with Trust Policy.1.10 Maintain own professional competence in Oncology by education, training and regular review of best practice.Clinical Practice Facilitator Responsibilities
2.1 To adopt a lead role in staff local induction and delivery of programmes of education and professional development for non‑medical staff within Oncology in collaboration with Oncology / Haematology MDT, and to take a lead in the building and sustenance of a learning culture within the oncology department.2.2 To support ‘learning through doing’ as well as training and education away from the bedside through structured programmes.2.3 Has a designated responsibility to manage the induction process for staff newly appointed to Oncology, including both experienced and new staff across a range of roles.2.4 To ensure staff have undertaken relevant training and are fully informed and competent in the use of all equipment within the clinical area.2.5 To assure that staff undertaking training education and development are supported in working to meet set standards of performance.2.6 To ensure the appropriate allocation of supervisors / mentors for induction period in consultation with senior sisters.2.7 To provide continuing support to newly appointed members of staff and the supervisor / mentor during the support process, to ensure any occurring problems are promptly and effectively resolved.2.8 To facilitate the process of goal setting during induction process and beyond to ensure the effective development of staff, and to assist with the assessment of competence to allow transition into preceptor role following induction.2.9 To be responsible for the regular review and evaluation of the induction process to ensure an effective system is in place.2.10 To maintain effective, complete and accurate documentation for each member of staff regarding development and skills training, using computer software and links with computer systems in other departments.Patient Care Responsibilities
3.1 To maintain and promote high standards of care and safety within the unit in the management of patients and the operation of the service, and to participate in the setting and monitoring of measurable standards.3.2 To practice as an expert nurse in the ward as a bedside nurse and, where required, as a shift co‑ordinator and clinical leader.3.3 To act as an advocate for patients within the oncology ward, who are highly dependent and potentially vulnerable.3.4 To ensure that the rights, dignity, privacy and…
