About the Role

We are excited to offer an opportunity for proactive, enthusiastic and committed applicants to join us for their career journey in engineering within the Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture teams. Marine vessels represent some of the most complex manufactured assets in the world and provide challenging and rewarding work for those who design, build and support them throughout their life cycle.

As an apprentice in our engineering teams, you will be involved in projects across the lifecycle of various types of vessels and across different sectors, helping solve our customers’ problems and delivering innovative, bespoke solutions.

The Main Responsibilities Will Be To
  • Develop and apply a breadth of engineering skills;
  • Use software and technologies to help solve complex engineering problems;
  • Contribute to developing designs for the next generation of vessels and platforms, and to maintaining and improving existing ships and submarines;
  • Keep up‑to‑date with future technologies and how they could be incorporated into our designs;
  • Be part of a team interacting directly with customers at meetings and during surveys of ships and submarines;
  • Help develop in‑service modifications for naval and commercial marine vessels;
  • Be part of the development of the ‘clean maritime’ engineering and integration solution.
About You

We are looking for someone who can work independently while also thriving in a team setting. You should have an organised approach to your work, communicate effectively and manage your time well.

Qualifications

Level 3 Engineering Design Technician Advanced Apprenticeship
A minimum GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (C) or above in Mathematics, English and Science‑based subjects.

Level 6 Degree Engineering Apprenticeship
A minimum GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (C) or above in Mathematics and English.

Additional Qualification Options

  • A‑Levels – Grade C or above in Mathematics plus a pass in one of the following subjects:
    Biology, Chemistry, Computing/Computer Science, Design and Technology, Electronics, Engineering, ICT, Further Mathematics, Music Technology, Physics, Statistics. Minimum of two A‑levels required.
  • T Levels – Grade C in A‑Level Mathematics, plus a T‑Level qualification. Applicants may be partially completing a T‑Level but must have the equivalent of two full A‑levels.
  • Tariff Points – Minimum of 112 tariff points.
  • EDXCEL (BTEC) Diploma – One of the following BTEC Diplomas:
    Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Science, Construction and the Built Environment, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Engineering, Land‑based Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations and Maintenance Engineering, with a Merit in one of the following units:
    Further Engineering Mathematics or Further Mathematics for Construction.
  • Access – Achievement of the HE Diploma, including 30 Level 3 credits at Merit, 15 in Mathematics and 15 in another science or technology subject.
