Thrive Practitioner / Teaching Assistant

Overview

St. Marys CofE Primary is a school rated Outstanding in all five Ofsted areas and known for its deeply supportive and caring culture. The school is growing in popularity and size, offering opportunities for professional development and a supportive environment.

Role

We are seeking a dedicated Thrive Practitioner to remove barriers to learning and support the social‑emotional and mental health (SEMH) progress of our pupils. The role is a fixed‑term position until the end of the current academic year, with potential for extension. You will work 13 hours per week across two days (8:30 am–3:30 pm, with a daily 30‑minute unpaid lunch break).

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver personalised THRIVE 1‑2‑1 and small group intervention sessions.
  • Work alongside an experienced 3‑day‑per‑week Thrive Practitioner.
  • Assess pupils’ needs and use specialist skills to support learning, promoting self‑esteem and independence.
  • Establish relationships with pupils, act as a role model, and promote inclusion of all.
  • Lead or contribute to meetings with parents and provide pastoral support for pupils.
  • Liaise with external agencies and professionals to support pupils’ achievement and progress.
Qualifications
  • Essential: Experience working with children of relevant age in a learning environment.
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2 in English and Maths.
  • Strong understanding of child development learning processes and statutory frameworks relating to special educational needs.
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults and work constructively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using ICT to support learning and maintain records.
  • Desirable: Current THRIVE Practitioner Licence for Primary with commitment to professional development.
  • NVQ Level 3/4 qualification.
  • Appropriate knowledge of general first aid (e.g., Paediatric First Aid Certificate).
