Assistant Tax Accountant / Yeovil (Hybrid) £16–£17 per hour, PAYE.

10‑month temporary contract with potential for extension.

Are you confident working with data, great at spotting inconsistencies, and comfortable applying your own logic to solve problems? We're looking for an organised and proactive Assistant Tax Accountant to join our friendly Tax team in Yeovil. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with VAT or tax experience who enjoys data analysis, Excel work, and playing an important role in ensuring accurate tax compliance across the business.

The Role

As an Assistant Tax Accountant, you'll support the Senior Tax Manager with both UK and international indirect tax reporting, alongside elements of employer compliance. You'll be working closely with a team of Assistant Tax Accountants based in Yeovil, several of whom focus heavily on VAT returns. You'll become a key part of the team, helping manage day‑to‑day tax matters including VAT, overseas equivalents, PAYE and more.

What

You’ll Be Doing
  • Preparing monthly UK and international VAT returns
  • Completing monthly Employee Benefits in Kind reconciliations and investigating discrepancies
  • Supporting with P11D, PAYE Settlement Agreements, and statistical returns
  • Assisting with Short Term Business Visitor (STBV) annual reporting
  • Reconciling tax general ledger accounts and preparing journals
  • Working with other internal teams to gather information and discuss tax‑related queries
  • Providing general support to the tax team through ad‑hoc tasks and analysis
Essential Experience
  • Experience in VAT, tax compliance, or payroll‑related tax work
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large amounts of data
  • Ability to think independently and use logic to investigate discrepancies
  • Comfortable reviewing complex data sets and identifying irregularities
Desirable
  • Experience using SAP
Working Pattern

Hybrid – 3 days per week on site in Yeovil during the initial onboarding period, reducing to 1 day per week thereafter.
