Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate or graduate student to join our Material Assessment and Qualification (MatAQ) research group. The successful candidate will work on the testing, characterization, and evaluation of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) for accelerator-relevant applications at Fermilab (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory). This role offers hands-on experience in materials testing, data analysis, scientific reporting, and opportunities for a summer internship at Fermilab and possible conference participation.
Responsibilities- Experimental Design & Setup: Design and set up materials for mechanical property tests.
- Data processing: Run Python-based code for testing data processing.
- Software Development: Contribute to the development of data processing tools for sensitivity analysis and data processing.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports summarizing results, methods, and progress.
- Dissemination of Results: Support the preparation of posters and presentations, with opportunities to present findings at national conferences.
- Gain hands-on research experience in both experimental and computational methods.
- Opportunity to co-author reports and presentations.
- Opportunity to work with Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab).
- Possibility to present research at regional and national conferences.
- Mentorship and collaboration within an active research group.
- Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong interest in experimental methods, numerical modeling, and/or software development.
- Basic proficiency in programming (Python, MATLAB, or similar) preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
$14 / hour
