This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring material requirements based on production schedules, demand forecasts, and inventory levels. Working closely with procurement, production, warehouse, and quality teams, the Material Planner helps maintain smooth manufacturing flow, minimizes delays due to material shortages, and optimizes inventory levels. The role requires strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
Responsibilities:
1.Material Requirement Planning (MRP)
Run MRP regularly based on production schedules, demand forecasts, and inventory levels.
Calculate and review raw material/component needs using ERP or planning systems.
Generate and follow up on purchase requisitions to ensure timely ordering of materials.
Monitor planning parameters (e.g., reorder points, lead times, safety stock) and update them as needed.
2. Inventory Management
Ensure adequate supply of raw materials and components to meet production needs.
Monitor and maintain inventory accuracy of raw materials and WIP (Work in Progress).
Track and report on inventory levels, usage rates, and shelf-life (if applicable).
Support inventory reduction initiatives and help minimize excess and obsolete stock.
3. Purchase Order Coordination
Coordinate with the purchasing team to confirm order placement based on MRP outputs.
Follow up with suppliers or procurement teams to confirm material deliveries.
Resolve discrepancies between PO and actual material receipts (e.g., quantity, quality, delays).
4. Production Support
Provide material status updates to production and planning teams.
Expedite or reschedule materials to support production changes or urgent orders.
Help resolve material shortages or issues that affect production output or schedule adherence.
5. ERP/MRP System Updates
Update planning parameters, lead times, and supplier info in the system.
6. Communication & Coordination
Liaise with cross-functional teams including:
Procurement for PO and delivery follow-up
Production for material demand alignment
Warehouse for inventory levels and goods receiving
Quality Control for material clearance or hold issues
Communicate any material-related delays or risks to stakeholders promptly.
7. Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and present reports such as:
Material Availability Report
Inventory Coverage
Stock Aging / Excess Inventory
Purchase Requisition Tracking
Assist in root cause analysis for material shortages or planning errors.
8. Documentation & Compliance
Ensure all planning and inventory documentation is up to date.
Requirements:
Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or a related field
2–5 years’ experience in material planning or related roles in a manufacturing environment
Familiarity with production processes and BOMs (Bill of Materials)
Experience with lean manufacturing or JIT systems is a plus
Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
Good communication and coordination skills
Detail-oriented with high planning accuracy
Time management and ability to prioritize under pressure
Team player with a proactive attitude
