Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a PRN Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Bastrop, Kyle, and San Marcos locations. The PRN role will cover a clinic with hours Monday – Friday (8:30 am – 5 pm) and will not require weekends, on‑call, or major holiday coverage. The position can be a Level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.

What

does the PRN RN do?

Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care in accordance with national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. The RN demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental, and age‑specific differences in the patient population, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs, and supports the US Oncology Compliance Program.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
    • Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history.
    • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.
    • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Facilitate clinical operations and patient care.
    • Manage patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and record the information in the patient chart.
    • Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre‑testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals, and future appointments for patients.
    • Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient chart.
    • As necessary, facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care.
    • Assist patients in locating available community resources.
  • Inter‑professional collaboration.
    • Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
Qualifications Level 1
  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
  • 0–3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements)
  • 3–5 years nursing experience.
  • Oncology certification preferred.
Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements)
  • Five years nursing experience.

Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
